The Complete XJD Bike Size Chart: From 12-Inch to 26-Inch

A kids bike size chart is only useful if it is written in measurements you can take tonight. This one covers the full XJD range sold on xjdbikes.com — 12, 14, 16, 20, 24 and 26 inch — and maps each wheel size to rider height, inseam and the skills the bike is meant to serve. Take two numbers (height and inseam), match them below, and the choice usually makes itself.

The size chart at a glance

  • 12 inch: riders about 33–41 inches (85–105 cm) tall, roughly ages 3–4, first pedals.
  • 14 inch: 35–47 inches (90–120 cm), ages 3–5, confidence building.
  • 16 inch: 41–53 inches (105–135 cm), ages 4–7, first independent riding.
  • 20 inch: 50–61 inches (127–155 cm), ages 8–12, school runs and longer loops.
  • 24 inch: 54–63 inches (137–160 cm), ages 10–14, committed daily riding.
  • 26 inch: 57 inches (145 cm) and up, teens and adults, full-size cruising.

Age ranges are secondary. Two children of the same age routinely differ by a full wheel size, so height and inseam decide.

Why inseam matters more than age

Inseam determines whether a rider can put a foot down flat while seated — the single most reassuring skill a new rider can have. For 12- and 14-inch bikes, aim for an inseam at or slightly below the wheel size so the saddle can start low. For 20-inch and larger, the inseam only needs to allow a soft knee at the bottom of the pedal stroke.

Matching the bike style to the stage

The chart gets you the wheel size; the style gets you the right bike within it. Training-wheel models suit first pedals; BMX frames with training wheels suit riders who want a sturdier platform; beach cruisers in 24 and 26 inch suit the committed daily rider who has outgrown the learning years entirely.

Adjustability buys you time

Every XJD model listed here carries an adjustable saddle and handlebar. Choose the wheel size for today's inseam with room for the saddle to rise, not the size you hope will fit next year. A bike sized correctly today gets ridden today — and the adjustable range is what lets it keep being ridden through the growth spurt.

Common questions

Can a child ride a bike with a bigger wheel size to grow into it?

Not safely. Oversized bikes are the leading cause of first-ride falls because the rider cannot reach the ground or the brakes confidently. Size for today.

When should we move from 20 inch to 24 inch?

When the saddle post approaches its maximum extension and the knees still rise too high at the top of the stroke — that is the frame telling you it is done.

Bottom line

Measure height and inseam, pick the wheel size from the chart, then choose the style that matches the stage. The full range is in the training wheel bike collection and the beach cruiser collection if you want to compare wheel sizes side by side.
