How to Measure Your Child for a Bike

Featured

A child's age is useful for a first estimate, but height and inseam are the measurements that make a bike feel safe and controllable.

Measure height

  1. Have your child stand barefoot against a wall.
  2. Keep heels together and eyes looking straight ahead.
  3. Mark the top of the head and measure from the floor.

Measure inseam

  1. Place a thin book between the legs with its spine gently raised to simulate a saddle.
  2. Keep both feet flat and measure from the floor to the top edge of the book.
  3. Repeat once and use the smaller measurement if the readings differ.

Check the fit on the bike

For a first pedal bike, the rider should be able to start, stop and reach the controls confidently. Follow the fit range published on the individual product page because frame geometry varies even when two bikes use the same wheel size.

Compare age, height and wheel size, then use Find My Size to narrow the available bikes.
