Balance Bike vs Training Wheels

Featured

Both approaches can help a child begin riding, but they teach different skills.

Choose a balance bike when

  • Your child is learning to steer and balance.
  • You want a lightweight, pedal-free start.
  • The child can place both feet securely on the ground within the product's published fit range.

Choose training wheels when

  • Your child is ready to practice pedaling and braking.
  • The bike has removable training wheels and adult-adjustable controls.
  • You have a flat, traffic-free practice area.

Moving forward

Training wheels provide support but do not replace balance practice. Raise or remove them only when the rider can start, steer, brake and stop without leaning heavily on either side. Always use a correctly fitted helmet and adult supervision.
