Kids Bike Safety Checklist

Featured

Use this short check before every ride. An adult should correct any problem before the child continues.

Before riding

  • Helmet sits level, fits snugly and the strap is secured.
  • Tires are properly inflated and free from visible damage.
  • Wheels and handlebars are secure and aligned.
  • Front and rear brakes stop the bike correctly.
  • Seat and handlebar adjustment marks remain inside their safe limits.
  • Chain guard, reflectors and required protective parts are fitted.

Choose the riding area

Start on a flat, dry, traffic-free surface away from stairs, pools and steep slopes. Match supervision to the child's ability and local rules. Bright clothing and lights improve visibility but do not replace attentive riding.

After a fall or impact

Inspect the helmet and bicycle before riding again. Replace a helmet after a significant impact according to its manufacturer's instructions, even if damage is not obvious.
